This past Friday night, some of our team got the chance to catch Austin Havis, Comfort Club, and Cat Dad over at the Moroccan Lounge in LA, and they did not disappoint! All three artists incorporated how it felt to grow up and their experiences, whether it be through relationship fallout, feeling lost, or a sense of self isolation. To start off the night, we had Austin Havis opening up and oh. my. god. He was so captivating to everyone in the room, and he really blew me away with his lyricism and stage presence. He was very connected to the crowd and was making jokes as well, as if everyone in that room were friends of his, and I thought it was very sweet. This was his very first show, but the way he performed it was as if he’s been performing for years! He creates the perfect blend of songs you can cry to but also songs you can get up and dance to. We’re looking forward to seeing what Austin has planned for the future and his shows to come!

Following Austin Havis, Comfort Club took the stage, accompanied with a full band consisting of drummer Alex Andrews, bassist Noah Christian, and keys player Micah Bachrach, along beautifully projected visuals. Typically, we see him performing solo, so it was really cool for me to see him for the first time perform with a full band and the chemistry they all had. Genuinely just a solid group of talented individuals. Every song he performed had everyone grooving out, especially our photographer. I was super excited to hear his newest song, “20’s” live, because I’m going to be real, it’s been on repeat since he released it! The song is an ode to everyone in their 20’s who feels lost and confused about everything happening in their life at the moment, and I feel like anyone who listens to the song can definitely resonate with it and apply it to their lives. I think I NEED to hear this song in a coming of age film, and you will too once you hear it. If you haven’t paused your reading to go listen to it yet, what are you waiting for?!

Coming from San Luis Obispo County, after 5 years of performing with side projects, CAT DAD returns to the stage for his debut as CAT DAD. Though it was a long dry spell, his presence and connection with the audience definitely has remained consistent in the sense of bringing overwhelming joy with not only his fans, but himself as well. With a 13 song setlist, CAT DAD brought out two special guests to perform with. Guest artist, Re:, came up onto the stage to sing the collaborative project “don’t come near me!”. The performance did not disappoint. Luckily enough, CAT DAD also gave us a bit of insight into a new unreleased song, “WANNATAKEAPHOTO”, that is currently set to be released on July 8th. If you’re a fan of Still Woozy or Cautious Clay, definitely look into loving CAT DAD and having him on every single one of your summer playlists. To finish off the night, we were so lucky to be able to experience him and his girlfriend and collaborator, Tulips Ballad, perform four collaborative songs: “Evolve”, “Feel Like I’m All Alone”, “Chances”, and “I Fade Away”. The studio versions of these songs were already amazing, but my oh my, the live performances were way past amazing. Creating a performance that executed and displayed a beautiful dynamic between artists and audiences was definitely a standard that was surpassed. With the return of live music underway, here’s to hoping that we’ll be able to catch another CAT DAD show in the future!
